Programs
The programs below are all exclusive to teens and widely known and vetted by YPW staff.
YPW Leadership Team Advice
If you’re interested in a program, start on the application as soon as possible. Be especially mindful of application components outside of your control, (ex., letters of recommendation).
Keep in mind that writing programs, like colleges, can be inconsistent with each other sometimes; a highly qualified writer could get rejected from one and accepted into another that’s equally selective. If you really want to maximize your chances of participating in a program this summer, apply to more than one in case you get waitlisted or rejected from the other.
If you’re waitlisted but still really interested, write the institution a letter of continued interest: a brief, friendly email explaining how much you’d still love to go, and, if applicable, any relevant updates since you submitted your application (like new awards, progress on a writing project, etc.) Additionally, if they have a phone number, call them! Talking to a person over the phone about why you’re passionate about attending can really help.
Most importantly: don’t stress out! Remember: the whole point of a writing program is to have fun further exploring your passion for writing, and to meet other similar-minded writers in a supportive environment.
