3. Holding Special Events
From book clubs with established teen writers to our Literary Magazine fair that featured various indie publishers, guest events are structured to bring knowledge that is often gatekept to young writers while providing invaluable opportunities for learning and connection. In bridging divides between information and young poets, we give all young poets unique opportunities to grow.

Hosting regular events
YPW hosts various creative writing workshops and open mics that offer constructive criticism, celebration, and support. Writers will bring in 1-2 pieces to these events to share, and at workshops they will receive in-depth feedback. At open mics, they will be received by a welcoming community of fellow writers as they celebrate each other.

"YPW"
At the heart of YPW is its Discord Server. Within it we have over a dozen channels built for young writers aged 13-22 to share their work, get feedback from others, and bond over a love for creative writing. Our community is global and diverse, spanning across multiple countries and time zones. No matter your interest or place in your writing journey, there is a space for you in YPW.

TITLE
Joy in Poetry Workshop
Writing Workshop
RUN BY
YPW x Aster Lit
DATE AND TIME
Saturday, July 12 2025, @ 12-1PM EST
DESCRIPTION
Because the writing world often centers around the negative, there is so much potential in incorporating joy into our writing. In this workshop, we will explore all the potential there is for writing joy, whether that is in relation with grief or simply on its own. The workshop will include a discussion on what and why we write, annotating joy in poetry, some tips from both Aster Lit and YPW, and time to write and share your own pieces.

I think I've met the friends, poets, and writers of my life in this [Discord] server. By all means is it one of the greatest things that has happened to my writing career.

Young Poets Workshops has brought me so much joy since I first joined in December of 2024. I really appreciate how it's such a diverse space—geographically, age-wise, writing experience, and more. While we come from very different places, we are all connected by a shared love of writing and our belief that having a supportive community is essential to a writer's life. For example, I love how YPW has a revision channel, where members offer constructive feedback to one another in a virual, asynchronous manner that still offers wonderful advice and help to those who ask for it. I am grateful to Young Poets Workshops for doing so much to help young writers who might not have access to resources like in-person writing workshops.

YPW has introduced me to so many amazing creatives that I can have meaningful discourse (writing or not writing related) with, as well as helpful resources and places to submit my work. Before YPW, I didn't know anyone in the "teen writer world" and I'm proud to say that I do now… I can ask for advice on the most random things at any time and receive so many thoughtful responses. Also, I'm so eternally grateful for the kindness and support everyone in YPW shows each other throughout the highs and lows <3

[YPW SUMMER MENTEE]
Everyone in the YPW Discord server has been so kind and supportive of me on my writing journey! Their advice has significantly changed how I view my own writing, and I wouldn't be the writer I am now if it weren't for their help :)

[YPW 2024 SUMMER WORKSHOP SERIES FELLOW]
Prior to becoming a Workshop Fellow, I had zero experience whatsoever with holding my own writing workshop. Working with YPW during the 2024 Summer Workshop Series gave me not only a chance to bring my ideas to a greater audience but also the confidence to instruct and collaborate with other student creatives of all levels. My YPW contact, Fiona Jin, was incredibly helpful in transforming my pitch into a real workshop and guiding me through this first-time experience. Although I was initially nervous, I felt extremely supported by both the YPW Executive Board and by the other members of my cohort, whose events I also loved attending. I have no doubt that the opportunity to be a Workshop Fellow with YPW shaped who I am today as a writer and artist.

I really loved participating in YPW's Q&A event!! Not only was I honored to have been invited, the staff and attendees were so kind, and I had a great time talking more about my work.
